From Faith to Action: The International Day of Charity

September 5 marks the International Day of Charity, a day designated by the United Nations (UN) to encourage acts of giving and highlight the role of charity in alleviating suffering for communities, both near and far. For us as Muslims, this day resonates deeply with our faith, which places immense value on helping those in need.
“The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah (swt) is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah (swt) multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills.” (Qur’an 2:261)
Through Zakat and Sadaqah, we can transform the lives of vulnerable communities. These religious obligations are also a means of purifying our wealth, strengthening our faith, and bringing blessings into our lives.
Our Impact
At Muslim Hands Canada, we work on in various thematic areas, such as emergency response, food security, clean water, education, livelihoods, health, and local projects. We believe that every act of giving has the power to restore hope, dignity, and opportunity. On this International Day of Charity, we invite you to continue this legacy of compassion.
Compassion into Action
Together, we can embody the teachings of the Quran: “And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, [saying], ‘We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude.’” (Qur’an 76:8–9)
On this International Day of Charity, your contributions can truly be transformative.
- Give Sadaqah or Zakat to support ongoing projects
- Sponsor an orphan or child with disabilities and transform their future
- Donate to emergency appeals for regions in crisis, such as Pakistan, Gaza, and Yemen
- Support our local projects
This October, we will be travelling to Mali for eight unforgettable days – learn more about our Volunteer in Africa experience.
The International Day of Charity is a call to action. For Muslims, every day is an opportunity to give, guided by our faith and humanity. By working together, we can turn charity into lasting change and ensure that hope reaches even the most forgotten corners of the world.
