Pakistan's Monsoon Crisis 2025: Devastation, Displacement, and an Urgent Call for Aid

Muslim Hands Canada is on the ground in Pakistan, providing emergency relief to communities impacted by the devastating floods. Our teams are delivering medical aid and hot cooked meals to families in flood-stricken regions.
Pakistan is facing one of the most challenging monsoon seasons in recent years. According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), since the beginning of the monsoon season on June 26, 2025, around 657 people have lost their lives and 929 have been injured due to the floods.
The NDMA warns that casualties, damage to infrastructure, and economic losses are likely to escalate, with rain forecasts showing no sign of subsiding. Over 2,462 homes have been destroyed, while 451 kilometers of roads and 152 bridges have been damaged, severely disrupting mobility and relief operations.
These damages have not only disrupted daily life but have also cut off access to remote districts, leaving many communities isolated and in urgent need of assistance.
A Growing Displacement Crisis
The human toll goes beyond injuries and fatalities. As of August 16, 2025, NDMA and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) have registered 23,430 displaced family members in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Of these, 3,905 families are sheltered in 307 schools and other temporary facilities, while an estimated 50,000 families are being hosted by nearby communities.
This scale of displacement raises urgent concerns about overcrowding, poor hygiene, and the risk of disease outbreaks in shelters.
Access to many affected areas remains a major challenge due to washed-out roads and collapsed bridges, especially in districts like Buner, where aid has struggled to reach those in desperate need.
Our Work
We have responded to this urgent crisis by providing hundreds of hot meals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, along with critical medical aid to those impacted by the floods. In addition, we are distributing tents, kitchen utensils, hygiene kits, and bedding to help families cope with displacement.
As the floods continue and the crisis deepens, the need for emergency assistance in the form of food, clean water, shelter, healthcare, and psychosocial support is more pressing than ever.
Together, we can ensure that those impacted by the floods receive the care and support they urgently need during this difficult time.
