Reduce Hunger with Muslim Hands

“The righteous are those who give food, motivated solely by their love for Allah (swt), to the poor, the orphan, and the captive, seeking His pleasure alone without expectation of reward or thanks.” Surah Al-Insan [76:8-9]

Muslim Hands has been feeding the hungry since 1993. We have teams on the ground in countries including Yemen, The Gambia, Pakistan, Mali, Niger, and Senegal, working tirelessly to assist underprivileged communities.

We run several programs to address the hunger crisis, including distributing food parcels, implementing school feeding initiatives, providing hot meals for Gaza, running bread factories in Yemen, and distributing meals to marginalized communities within Canada.

Additionally, we offer Ramadan emergency food parcels for families in emergency zones and for those facing extreme poverty.

According to the World Food Programme, 343 million people worldwide face acute hunger.

According to a 2024 report by the Global Network Against Food Crises, there are 36 million acutely malnourished children worldwide.

Muslim Hands is working to address this crisis by providing classroom feeding programs that ensure children receive nutritious meals during school hours.

These programs combat malnutrition, improve attendance, and boost academic performance by removing the barriers that hinder learning.

Your support can make a difference in the lives of children, especially in communities where hunger and poor nutrition remain detrimental to learning.

Reduce Hunger Across the World

Q. What is the Hunger Appeal, and who does it help?

A. The hunger appeal helps people in impoverished nations providing them and their families with food supplies.

Q. Which countries or communities benefit from this appeal?

A. We provide food packs to several communities worldwide in countries spanning from Mali, Niger, Pakistan, Gaza, The Gambia, Somalia and others. We target the most impoverished communities including the elderly, the disabled as well as school children.

Q. How does my donation help fight hunger?

A. Your donations have a direct impact on reducing the hunger crisis.

Our teams on the ground deliver your Sadaqah and Zakat to families facing starvation, saving lives and curbing disease outbreaks.

Malnutrition, for instance, weakens the immune system, making individuals, particularly children and the elderly, more vulnerable to infections and diseases.

Q. What specific items are included in the food parcels?

A. Our food parcels include essentials such as oil, rice, flour, and grains. Our Ramadan food packs contain similar items but also include dates and other Ramadan-specific foods.

Q. Do you provide cooked meals or just food parcels?

A. We also provide cooked meals to families in crisis. For instance, we are working through our partner, the World Food Programme, to provide hot-cooked meals to the people of Gaza.

Q. How many people face the detrimental effects of hunger

A. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) hunger is an “uncomfortable or painful physical sensation caused by insufficient consumption of dietary energy.”

despite enough food to feed the poor, approximately, 733 million remained hungry in 2023. According to the United Nations, approximately 49 million in 43 countries are facing the imminent threat of famine. The top five countries facing high levels of hunger include the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria and The Sahel.

Q. How much does it cost to feed a family?

A. It depends, but most of our food packs feed a family of five to seven members and last about a month. They start at about $190 but prices vary depending on location and inflation.

Q. Can I donate a custom amount?

A. Our food parcels have a fixed price; however, you can donate any amount to our Food Fund, which provides food for needy families.

Q. Is this appeal Zakat-eligible?

A. Yes, the hunger appeal is Zakat eligible. Just make sure you select the Zakat option from the drop-down menu.

Q. How do I know my donation is reaching those in need?

A. We have teams on the ground in countries including Mali, Niger, The Gambia, Pakistan and others, highlighting how your donations are making a difference. Please follow our Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as our YouTube channel to watch first-hand the impact of your donations. You can also be added to our mailing list to receive weekly newsletters from the ground.

Q. Who delivers the aid on the ground?

A. We have teams on the ground in countries including Yemen, Somalia, Pakistan, Mali, Niger, and others, along with dedicated field offices in several countries that oversee your distributions.

Our teams also conduct needs assessments to ensure that only the most vulnerable households receive food supplies.

Q. How does Muslim Hands deliver food aid to Gaza?

A. Muslim Hands Canada provides bread parcels, hot cooked meals and food parcels to the people of Gaza through our partners at the World Food Programme (WFP).

Q. Can I volunteer to help distribute food?

A. We have several volunteer opportunities for those interested in getting involved in local distributions and/or participating in volunteer abroad trips.

Just drop us an email at mail@muslimhands.ca or call us at 289-722-7272.

We can add you to our volunteer WhatsApp group and/or mailing list so you can learn about upcoming opportunities.

Q. Do you provide sustainable solutions beyond food distribution?

A. Muslim Hands remains committed to providing sustainable solutions beyond food distribution.

While we address immediate needs through food aid, we also focus on long-term solutions such as education, healthcare, clean water access, and livelihood support.

Our goal is to empower communities to break the cycle of poverty and build a brighter future for themselves.

Q. Do you offer livelihood programs to help families become self-sufficient?

A. Yes, Muslim Hands provides Hope Shops for women in need, empowering them to earn an income and gain financial independence.

Additionally, we distribute sewing machines and farm animals, enabling families to generate sustainable livelihoods.

These programs provide long-term solutions for self-sufficiency.

Q. How do these appeals contribute to ending hunger in the long run?

A. Through livelihood support programs like Hope Shops, we provide families the tools to earn an income and become self-sufficient, ultimately reducing dependence on food aid. By providing sewing machines and farming animals, we enable families to generate an income, grow their food, and support their communities.

With access to education, healthcare, and livelihood programs, communities can break the cycle of poverty.

Together, these efforts create lasting change, helping families overcome hunger for good.
