Your Qurbani in Action

Hashid Muhammad Ahmad Al-Yusi
Meet Hashid, a 24-year-old father residing in Ghazi Alwan, a displaced community in Khor Maksar, near Aden. He and his wife are raising three young children in a makeshift tent, having lost their home and livelihood to the ongoing conflict.
To support his family, Hashid washes cars, earning between 3,000 to 7,000 Yemeni rials ($17 to $40 CAD) per day, a wage which isn’t always steady and reliable. He has also accrued debt, making it difficult to afford necessities.
Hashid worries about how he will be able to afford school fees for his three children, as access to education in Ghazi Alwan remains limited and costly due to economic hardship. According to the UN, more than 2.5 million children in Yemen are not attending school, and 8.6 million school-aged children need educational assistance.
Like many displaced Yemenis, Hashid and his family don’t always have access to food and clean water. He relies on humanitarian aid to feed his family. He worries about his children’s health and development. According to the UN, more than 17.1 million Yemenis suffer from high levels of acute food insecurity, including five million people who are on the brink of famine.
During Eid al-Adha, Hashid felt anxious about being unable to afford Qurbani. Despite his hardships, he values this sacred tradition and hopes his children participate in Eid al-Adha celebrations.
Qurbani and Udhiyah with Muslim Hands Canada
Thanks to your support, Muslim Hands Canada was able to distribute Qurbani - also referred to as Udhiyah - meat to thousands of vulnerable families last year, including families like Hashid’s. The gift of fresh meat brought comfort to his family during a difficult time. He shares his heartfelt gratitude, recalling how his children's faces lit up with joy upon receiving the meat - especially since his income only allows him to provide around one nutritious meal for his family per month.
His only wish now is to raise his standard of living and request donors to help him. “Please address our situation in the displacement camp and help meet our basic needs for a decent standard of living.”

Beyond Qurbani and Udhiyah: Long-Term Impact
There are many ways we can continue to support families like Hashid’s. At Muslim Hands Canada, we are dedicated to serving communities in Yemen through a wide range of initiatives. Our work spans several regions, such as Lahj, Ta’iz, Aden and Abya – areas that have been struggling with violence, economic collapse, food insecurity, disrupted public services, along with geopolitical conflict. Our Yemen-specific initiatives are listed below.
- Bread for Yemen: Helps provide daily bread to hundreds of people facing hunger.
- Yemen: Emergency Food Parcel: Supports a family with enough food for an entire month.
- Yemen Medical Care Fund: Covers essential medical treatment for patients in need.
- Yemen Water Fund: Contributes to building deep water wells for clean, safe drinking water.
- Yemen: Feed a Child for One Year: Ensures a child receives nutritious meals throughout the year.
In addition to providing life-saving assistance to Yemenis, we offer education, facilitate sponsorship for orphans and children with disabilities, as well as implement food and clean water programs. Our livelihood projects empower and transform the lives of impoverished families by creating sustainable employment opportunities. When an emergency strikes, Muslim Hands teams are often the first to reach the ground or partner with reputable agencies, so essentials like food, water, and shelter reach those most in need. Your generous donations make this possible.
With your support, we can restore hope for the most vulnerable communities, one family at a time.
