Rajab: A Sacred Month

Muslim Hands

Rajab is the seventh month of the Islamic calendar.

“Verily, the number of months with Allah is twelve in the book of Allah, since the day He created the Heavens and the Earth. Four of them, they are sacred.” Qur’an 9:36

Rajab is a special month along with Dhul al-Qadah, Dhul Hijjah, and Muharram.

When is Rajab 2025?

The sacred month of Rajab began January 1, 2025.

As we draw nearer to the 27th of Rajab, which is expected to fall on January 27th, 2025, let’s seek this opportunity to get closer to Allah (swt), and seek his Blessings and Barakah.

The Prophet (saw) said, ‘Rajab is the month of Allah, Sha‘ban is my month and Ramadan is the month of my Ummah’.

What Can We Do During the Month of Rajab?

During this month, seek Allah’s (swt) mercy and forgiveness and increase good deeds.

  • Engage in acts of worship such as regular prayer, reciting the Quran, and making sincere dua.
  • Help the less fortunate is an important part of our religion, so we must contribute to those in need, whether financially or through our time and efforts.
  • Repentance is essential, as Allah (swt) is the Most Merciful and loves those who turn to Him.
  • Focus on improving yourself by treating others with kindness, patience and avoiding negative behaviors like gossip or anger.
  • Strengthen relationships with family and community members
  • Forgive those who have wronged you and pray that Allah(swt) guides them.

This month is an opportunity to renew our commitment to fulfilling our obligations in worship and striving to be better Muslims.

Ramadan is just a few weeks away, remain consistent in good deeds and take advantage of this blessed time to grow in faith and righteousness.

Significant Events During Rajab

Rajab is the month when the most significant historical events took place. It marks Prophet Muhammad’s (saw) nightly journey from Mecca to Jerusalem and his ascension to heaven.  This event took place on 27th Rajab.

Watch our video series about Rajab. In the first video, Ustad Shah discusses the virtues and merits of Rajab to His Ummah. This is followed by a discussion on the Messenger of Allah (saw)’s Night journey to Jerusalem. The discussion ends with the significance of the Al-Isra wal-Miraj or the Ascension.
