Transforming Lives, One Well at a Time

Hassan Amarsi

In the town of Chishtian, in Pakistan’s Bahawalnagar District, Muhammad Ameer, 50, a father of seven and grandfather of two, woke up every day to the same harsh reality: no clean water for his family.

In Chishtian, agriculture fuels the local economy, but clean water is scarce. Contaminated groundwater, with unsafe levels of total dissolved solids, has forced families like Muhammad’s to walk long distances for water. His wife and daughter-in-law bore the brunt, walking for hours in extreme heat to collect water for cooking and cleaning.

The community’s suffering was further exacerbated by poor sanitation and the spread of waterborne diseases such as typhoid and hepatitis. With no funds to repair old hand pumps or install deep boreholes, many endured these conditions, unable to imagine a way out.

Muslim Hands’ Clean Water Projects
Thanks to your generous contributions, Muhammad’s household now has access to clean water, through our dig-a-well project. This intervention targeted the critical need for safe water in underserved rural communities.

Dig-a-wells were installed at an appropriate bore depth to tap into a clean water source. We placed a well right by Muhammad’s home.

“Before this project, life felt unbearable,” says Muhammad Ameer. “We had to ask others for water, and often they would insult us. Our women suffered most, as they would walk for hours, facing humiliation, just for a few liters of water.”

But today, things have changed.

“Now, we have water whenever we need it. This one gift has changed everything – our health, our dignity, and our hope. We are so grateful to Muslim Hands Canada and the kind donors who remembered us.”

Clean water promotes long-term development in Chishtian. With less time spent on water collection and fewer illnesses, Muhammad hopes his children and grandchildren will have the chance to attend school and build a future free from hardship.

Access to clean drinking water is a right. Yet, countless families like Muhammad’s go without it every day. Your support is changing that. By funding water projects in underserved villages, you’re helping prevent diseases, restore dignity, and protect the most vulnerable.
