You Provided Winter Relief for Displaced Families in Yemen: Thank You for Your Support

Muslim Hands

As winter begins, the need for urgent humanitarian aid has never been more critical. With temperatures plunging below freezing and millions of displaced scattered across Yemen, many families are facing unimaginable hardships. Among the most vulnerable are those living in displacement camps, where the harsh winter conditions make survival a daily struggle. This is the reality for families in Al-Sarekhah IDP Camp in Ma’rib Governorate, Yemen, one of the areas hardest hit by the ongoing conflict.

Last Year, You Helped 1,399 Beneficiaries providing over $76,000 in donations

Because of your help, Muslim Hands launched a winter relief project to support 200 displaced families within the Al-Sarekhah IDP Camp in Ma’rib. The initiative provided food packs and winterization kits.

The food packs, lasted a month, containing essential supplies including rice, sugar, vegetables, oil, flour, red beans, broad beans, iodized salt, tomato paste, spaghetti, and tuna— staples to sustain families who would otherwise go hungry. Each food parcel provided enough nutrition for a family for thirty days.

In addition to food, winterization kits were distributed to each household. These included blankets, warm clothing, and a mat to help families stay warm during the freezing nights. In a region where the cold can be life-threatening, these items are not just a comfort—they are essential for survival.

A Lifeline for Families: Marwan’s Story

To understand the impact of this project, read the story of Marwan Mohammed Qaed Alfeshani, a 26-year-old father of two, living in Al-Sarekhah IDP Camp.

Marwan's family, like many others in the camp, was forced to flee their home due to the conflict in Yemen. They lived in a makeshift tent with no source of income, relying entirely on humanitarian aid. Before receiving the food parcels and winter kits, Marwan’s family struggled to make ends meet. They had no food, and the cold winter nights were unbearable. Marwan, a former construction worker, was unable to find stable employment due to the ongoing violence.

But since receiving winter aid, Marwan and his family have experienced a sense of relief they hadn’t felt in months. The food has eased their hunger, and the blankets and warm clothing protected them from the freezing temperatures. For the first time in a long time, Marwan doesn’t have to worry about his children going to bed hungry or experiencing biting cold conditions.

“We are so grateful for the help we received. We no longer have to worry about the cold or hunger,” Marwan says. “Your help has made us feel safe and warm.”

The Broader Impact of Your Donations

The impact of this aid extends beyond just food and warmth. For these families receiving assistance during winter brings a sense of hope and security. It also provides some normalcy amid uncertainty. These are families who, for the most part, have lost everything and live in constant fear of the future.

A Call for Continued Support

While this project made a difference, the situation in Yemen is far from over. Thousands of families in Al-Sarekhah IDP Camp and beyond still need urgent assistance. The effects of war, displacement, and the ongoing climate crisis continue to threaten the lives of innocent civilians, and the demand for aid far exceeds the available resources.

As we approach another year of uncertainty and struggle for families like Marwan’s, we remain committed to providing them with the tools to survive and rebuild their lives.

Your generous donations are essential to continue providing life-saving aid to displaced families in Yemen and beyond.
