As Winter Unfolds, Gaza Faces Growing Humanitarian Challenges
The ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza has devastated the lives of children and families. Homes have been destroyed, health services collapsed, communities shattered, and access to essential services severely disrupted.
Amidst the turmoil, the Gazans must deal with winter. Heavy rains, low temperatures and strong winds, will affect tens of thousands of Gazans. The situation is especially critical for those living in flimsy overcrowded tents often made from remnants of plastic, tattered cloth and nylon tarps.
Most Gazans have been displaced multiple times and are not equipped to deal with winter. The situation can be deadly especially for vulnerable populations including babies, pregnant women and the elderly.
A document titled, “Transitional Shelter Assistance - Technical Working Group-Gaza Technical Guidance draft” published by The Global Shelter Cluster, reads:
“At times over 15 individuals may be found in a single tent or makeshift shelter…Poor shelter also worsens the effects of poor nutrition and increases risks of exposure and hypothermia.”
There is an immediate need for hygiene kits, blankets, emergency supplies, and food, as winter unfolds in Gaza.
We are working through our partners on the ground to provide life-saving essentials to the people of Gaza. A donation of only $250 can provide an Emergency Survival Pack that includes essential food supplies, critical medical assistance, hygiene kits and blankets.
Your contribution can save lives and help us provide critical aid to those enduring unimaginable hardships.
According to an Integrated Food Security Phase Classification report published on October 17, 2024, nearly two million people have been displaced in Gaza. The report reads, “Seasonal diseases and increasingly limited access to water and health services are likely to worsen acute malnutrition, especially in densely populated areas, where the risk of epidemics is already high.”
