Arbaeen 2025 – Honoring Imam Hussain’s (as) Legacy

Muslim Hands

Arbaeen, also referred to as Chehlum, marks 40 days after the Day of Ashura when Imam Hussain (as) was martyred during the Battle of Karbala.

What is Arbaeen?
In Arabic, Arbaeen translates to ‘forty.’ It is a time for Muslims to mourn, reflect, and remember the Battle of Karbala, while honoring the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (as) and his companions. Many Muslims visit Karbala, Iraq during this time for pilgrimage.

What is the Arbaeen Pilgrimage?
During Arbaeen, pilgrims typically set out from Najaf to Karbala, a journey which is about 80 km long and takes roughly three days. Pilgrims also walk from other Iraqi cities, while some travel from neighboring countries such as Iran.

Along the way, pilgrims pray, recite Quran, and reflect.

The journey to Karbala is lined with thousands of mawakib (service stations) offering free food, water, and medical care for pilgrims. During Arbaeen, we witness the true beauty of our Ummah, a powerful display of generosity and community.

When is Arbaeen?
Arbaeen is expected to take place Friday, August 15, 2025. However, this date can change based on the sighting of the moon.

Make an Impact
Today, millions around the world continue to face hunger, displacement, and suffering. In the spirit of Arbaeen, our collective efforts can truly impact vulnerable communities.

“And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, [saying], ‘We feed you only for the countenance of Allah.’” (Quran 76:8–9)

The hospitality and selflessness of Arbaeen – such as offering food, shelter, and care to millions – echoes the principles at the core of humanitarian assistance. Uplift communities this Arbaeen by supporting food and water projects. Your generosity can also support orphans, expectant mothers, and children with disabilities, while also reaching emergency zones such as Gaza and Yemen.

By turning remembrance into action, honour Imam Hussain’s (as) legacy. Together, let’s embody the spirit of Arbaeen by supporting those in need, both near and far.
