Eid al-Adha 2025
What is Eid al-Adha?
Eid al-Adha translates to the ‘Festival of Sacrifice’ in Arabic. This Eid is one of the most important holidays for Muslims, as we are reminded of the loyalty and devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (as) towards Allah (swt). Eid al-Adha commemorates when Prophet Ibrahim (as) sacrificed his son, Prophet Ismail (as), in obedience to Allah’s (swt) command. As he was about to carry out the sacrifice, a ram took the place of Prophet Ismail (as).
When is Eid al-Adha 2025?
This year Eid al-Adha will begin on the evening of June 6, 2025, and continue for three days until June 9, 2025. Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah and takes place after the Day of Arafah (9th Dhul Hijjah).
How is the date of Eid al-Adha determined?
Eid al-Adha is determined according to the Islamic lunar calendar. Since the Islamic calendar is based on the phases of the moon, the exact date of Eid al-Adha changes every year.
Eid al-Adha marks the end of Hajj, the holy pilgrimage performed in the month of Dhul Hijjah. Eid al-Adha follows the Day of Arafah.
How many days is Eid al-Adha?
Eid al-Adha is celebrated over three days.
What is Eid Salah?
Eid salah is a congregational prayer performed on both Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. It is a highly recommended Sunnah to perform Eid salah. The Eid prayer consists of two rak‘ahs and includes extra takbeers. It is typically followed by a sermon. Eid salah for Eid al-Adha precedes Qurbani and Udhiyah.
When is Qurbani and Udhiyah performed?
The sacred ritual of Qurbani and Udhiyah is performed on Eid al-Adha after Eid salah. The sacrifice takes place during the three days of Eid.
As we offer Qurbani and Udhiyah during Eid al-Adha, we remember the sacrifice made by Prophet Ibrahim (as) and his devotion to Allah (swt):
“And when they had both submitted and he put him down upon his forehead, We called to him, ‘O Ibrahim, You have fulfilled the vision.’ … Indeed, this was the clear trial. And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice…” (Qur’an, 37: 103-8)
As the month of Dhul Hijjah approaches, fulfill your Qurbani and Udhiyah so that it reaches those in need on Eid day. It is also the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad to offer a Prophetic Qurbani.
How is Qurbani and Udhiyah Performed at Muslim Hands?
At Muslim Hands, we ensure your Qurbani and Udhiyah is carried out ethically, efficiently, and in line with Islamic principles.
Planning: Before the Qurbani and Udhiyah period begins, our team works with local partners to assess demand, costs, and suitable locations. We also identify appropriate animals for each region, ensuring they meet all religious and ethical standards.
Animal Selection: We purchase animals in advance, allowing time for thorough health checks and Islamic compliance. Animals are safely transported to remote areas where we provide proper care until the day where the Qurbani and Udhiyah will take place.
Donor Intention: When donating, provide the names of those on whose behalf the Qurbani and Udhiyah is being performed. At Muslim Hands, Qurbani and Udhiyah is performed with the donor’s intention in mind, which is the key requirement for the sacrifice to be valid. We do not verbally mention each donor’s name at the time of sacrifice. Islamically, the intention is what validates this act.
The recommended wording includes:
“Bismillah, Allahu Akbar. Oh Allah (swt), this is from You and for You on behalf of (Donor’s Name).”
After the sacrifice: “Oh Allah, accept this from (Donor’s Name).”
The Qurbani and Udhiyah Process: On Eid al-Adha, our veterinary and procurement teams oversee the sacrifice to ensure compliance with Islamic guidelines. We offer a 100 % delivery guarantee, ensuring animals are sacrificed stun-free. Animals are treated humanely throughout the process, and meat is distributed fresh, never frozen or tinned.
According to a hadith, those who offer Qurbani and Udhiyah should refrain from cutting their hair or nails from the beginning of Dhul-Hijjah until the sacrifice is completed.
Prophet Muhammad (saw) said:
“When the ten days (of Dhu’l-Hijjah) begin and any one of you wants to offer a sacrifice, let him refrain (from cutting) his hair and nails.” (Muslim)
Distribution: On Eid al-Adha, fresh meat is distributed to vulnerable communities worldwide A few days after your Qurbani and Udhiyah is complete, you’ll receive an email confirmation and feedback.
Starting at only $65, you can offer your Qurbani in emergency locations like Yemen and Somalia, as well as in non-emergency locations including India, Pakistan, Senegal, The Gambia, Niger, and Mali.
