What is the Day of Arafah?
The Day of Arafah, known as Yawm Arafah in Arabic, is one of the holiest days in Islam. It marks the day when the core laws, beliefs, and practices of Islam had been fully established. Pilgrims who perform Hajj worship at the plains of Arafat from noon until sunset, engaging in reflection, prayer, supplication, and seeking Allah‘s (swt) forgiveness. This ritual is vital for Hajj to be considered complete.
As the Prophet (saw) said, “Hajj is Arafah.”

When is the Day of Arafah in 2025?
The day of Arafah falls on the ninth of Dhul Hijjah. This year, it is expected to take place June 5, 2025, a day before Eid al-Adha.
What is the Importance of the Day of Arafah?
The Day of Arafah is not only a day of worship, but also a deeply spiritual occasion. On this day, Allah (swt) revealed the following verse from the Quran:
“This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as your religion...”
(Surah Al-Ma'idah, 5:3)
This verse was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (saw) during his final pilgrimage, solidifying the formation of the Islamic faith and the fulfillment of Allah’s (swt) guidance to humanity.
This day is also marked by Allah’s (swt) mercy as it is known to be the day when most people are freed from Hellfire. The Prophet (saw) said, “There is no day on which Allah frees people from the fire more so than on the Day of Arafah.” (Muslim)
What are the Recommended Acts on the Day of Arafah?

Is Fasting Recommended on the Day of Arafah?
For those who are not performing the Hajj pilgrimage, it is recommended to fast during the Day of Arafah. The Prophet (saw) said:
“It (fasting on the Day of Arafah) expiates the sins of the past year and the coming year.”
(Muslim)
It is also Sunnah to fast during the first nine days of Dhul Hijjah. For Hajj pilgrims, however, fasting is not encouraged, due to the physical and spiritual intensity of this day.
