Nida, a widow of four young children, lives in the village of Amanpura in the Punjab province of Pakistan. Her husband, Rafaqat Ali, developed a severe case of typhoid due to hazardous working conditions, leading to his untimely death.
Despite her deteriorating health, she worked tirelessly to repay loans that had accumulated to pay for her husband's medical expenses and keep her children fed.
The small, dilapidated house they live in mirror their circumstances. Umar, the eldest of four siblings, begged his mother to let him work in the fields or help in neighboring houses, but Nida refused.
She was adamant that her children complete their education. "Focus on your studies. Education is the only pathway out of this misery,” she’d say. Respecting his mother's wishes, Umar found solace in books, reading tales of heroes overcoming adversity taught him never to lose hope.
From the community, Nida learned about the Muslim Hands School of Excellence. She dreamed of enrolling her children in school, hoping it would mark the beginning of a successful career.
