Lighting the Way: Honoring Humanitarians

Honoring Humanity: World Humanitarian Day 2025
In 2025, 305 million people require urgent humanitarian aid due to escalating crises. Conflict and climate change are causing unprecedented displacement, hunger, and destruction.
August 19 marks World Humanitarian Day, a time when the world honors the aid workers who risk, and sometimes sacrifice their lives to help others in crisis. The day addresses urgent humanitarian needs worldwide – from conflict zones and natural disasters to health emergencies and displacement.
The Importance of World Humanitarian Day
The United Nations established World Humanitarian Day in memory of the 22 aid workers who lost their lives in the 2003 bombing of the UN headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq.
Since then, it has become a global occasion to mourn and mobilize, remembering the support for those continuing the work. Humanitarian workers are not only doctors, nurses, and UN staff, they are also community leaders, volunteers, and countless others working in some of the world’s most dangerous countries.
At Muslim Hands Canada, our work is grounded in the belief that serving humanity is a sacred duty. Guided by compassion and Islamic principles, we respond to crises – from war zones and famine-stricken areas to communities rebuilding after natural disasters.
