Dua's for Fasting

Fasting, Faith, and Accepted Du’a

Fasting is an act of worship that nurtures self-discipline, patience, and closeness to Allah (swt). During Ramadan and voluntary fasts, Muslims refrain from food and drink while increasing remembrance, prayer, and reflection for the sake of Allah (swt).

The Prophet Muhammad (saw) taught that the du’a of a fasting person is especially honoured, particularly at the moment of breaking the fast. These moments invite sincerity, gratitude, and hope.

The Power of Du’a While Fasting

Fasting softens the heart and sharpens awareness of our dependence on Allah (swt). The Prophet Muhammad (saw) reminded us that the supplication of a fasting person at iftar is not rejected, encouraging us to pause, reflect, and ask Allah (swt) with sincerity.

Du’a for Breaking the Fast

When breaking the fast, it is recommended to thank Allah (swt) and acknowledge His blessing.

ذَهَبَ الظَّمَأُ وَابْتَلَّتِ الْعُرُوقُ وَثَبَتَ الأَجْرُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ Transliteration: Dhahabadh-dhama’, wabtallatil ‘urooq, wa thabatal ajru in shaa Allah Translation: The thirst has gone, the veins are moistened, and the reward is assured, if Allah wills

Du’a When Angered While Fasting

Fasting teaches restraint and calm. If someone provokes you while fasting, the Prophet Muhammad (saw) taught us to respond with restraint.

إِنِّي صَائِمٌ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ Transliteration: Innee saa’im, innee saa’im Translation: I am fasting, I am fasting

Du’a for Protection and Acceptance

Ramadan is a time to seek Allah’s (swt) pleasure and protection from harm.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ رِضَاكَ وَالْجَنَّةَ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ سَخَطِكَ وَالنَّارِ Transliteration: Allahumma innee as’aluka ridaaka wal jannah wa a‘oodhu bika min sakhatika wan naar Translation: O Allah (swt), I ask You for Your pleasure and for Paradise, and I seek refuge in You from Your displeasure and the Hellfire

Du’a for Forgiveness While Fasting

Fasting is also a time of repentance and renewal. Turning to Allah (swt) with humility opens the door to forgiveness.

رَبَّنَا إِنَّنَا آمَنَّا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ Transliteration: Rabbanaa innanaa aamannaa faghfir lanaa dhunoobanaa wa qinaa ‘adhaaban naar Translation: Our Lord, we believe, so forgive our sins and protect us from the punishment of the Fire

Alongside du’a while fasting, sadaqah is a powerful act of worship that brings barakah and softens the heart, so consider giving through Muslim Hands Canada and letting your charity accompany your accepted supplications.

May Allah (swt) accept our fasting, our du’as, and our efforts, and allow us to grow closer to Him through every moment of restraint and remembrance. Ameen.
