Laylatul Qadr: The Night of Power
We have, indeed, revealed this message in the Night of Power. And what will explain to thee what the Night of Power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. Therein come down the angels and the spirit by Allah's permission, on every errand: Peace! This until the rise of Morn
As the end of Ramadan approaches, Laylatul Qadr grants us the chance to gain infinite rewards and blessings. The Night of Power is a time for reflection, prayer, and generosity; here, we cover everything you need to know about this blessed night.
WHAT IS LAYLATUL QADR?
Laylatul Qadr translates into The Night of Power. The Qur’an describes this night as ‘better than a thousand months’ (Al-Qadr 97:3). It is the night in which the very first verses of the Holy Qur’an were revealed to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as guidance for mankind.
Many Muslims choose to spend the final ten nights of Ramadan in deep prayer while seeking the rewards and blessings of the Night of Power, which falls during this time. Join your brothers and sisters around the world as we celebrate this Holy month and all the reward it can bring.
Ramadan is the month in which was sent down the Qur’an, as a guide to mankind, also clear signs for guidance and judgment (between right and wrong)
WHAT ARE THE REWARDS OF LAYLATUL QADR?
Abu Hurayrah relates that the Prophet (saw) said:
'Whoever stands (in the voluntary night prayer of) Ramadan out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven. And whoever spends the night of Laylatul Qadr in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven'. (Sunan an-Nasa’i)
Any action of worship carried out on this night such as reciting the Holy Qur’an and remembering Allah (swt), is better on this night than doing these same actions for a thousand months.
WHEN IS LAYLATUL QADR 2024?
This auspicious night falls during the last 10 nights of Ramadan. During Ramadan 2024, the 27th night of the Holy month is expected to fall on or around April 6th, dependent on the sighting of the moon.
WHAT ARE THE SIGNS OF LAYLATUL QADR?
Many Muslim scholars have spoken of certain phenomena occurring on Laylatul Qadr:
It is said that since the angels descend on this night, we may feel a peculiar tranquillity and peace of mind and be overwhelmed with a unique tenderness of heart.
The night is neither very hot nor very cold, but a temperate one.
The sun that rises on the next day is not overly hot.
WHAT SHOULD I DO ON LAYLATUL QADR?
There are many ways to gain reward on this blessed night:
I’tikaaf: Remain in I'tikaaf (seclusion in the Mosque in order to spend maximum time in worship) if possible - this is the best way of making the most of the rewards during the last ten nights of Ramadan.
Ibaadah: Laylatul Qadr is also known as the Night of Decree and our fate for the following year is decided on this auspicious night. It is important to spend as much time in prayer and worship as possible. The best du’a for this night is:
'O Allah, You are most forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me'.
Giving Charity: The reward for any righteous act performed during this night is infinite. This is why so many Muslims opt to pay their Zakat during the Holy month of Ramadan – and especially on the Night of Power – to reap the wealth of rewards that come with doing so.
Eating Lightly: The more you eat, the harder it will be for you to stay up and the less productive you will be the following day. After a full day of fasting, it can, of course, be tempting to overindulge at Iftar. However, it is so much better to take in a light meal following the fast, traditionally broken by dates.
There are such immense rewards to be gained in these blessed 10 nights that Allah (swt) has hidden knowledge of the exact night out of mercy for us. This enables us to increase our worship in search of this honourable night by praying, making dhikr and du’a and in turn having our sins forgiven and gaining a multitude of rewards in return.
Donate Zakat
When planning to spend the final ten nights of Ramadan in dedicated prayer and devotion to Allah (swt) don’t forget the Night of Power and the amount of reward it can bring. By giving your Zakat on this night, you can receive a greater reward than could be achieved through a thousand months of uninterrupted prayer.
