Hunger Crisis

The hunger appeal helps people in impoverished nations providing them and their families with food supplies.

We provide food assistance to vulnerable communities across the globe, including in Mali, Niger, Pakistan, Gaza, The Gambia, Somalia, and other countries affected by poverty, conflict, and food insecurity.

Our programs prioritise those most at risk, including the elderly, people with disabilities, and school-aged children, helping families meet their immediate nutritional needs and reducing the risk of hunger and malnutrition.

Your generosity helps provide essential food assistance to families facing hunger and food insecurity around the world.

Through our trusted teams on the ground, your Sadaqah and Zakat are delivered directly to vulnerable communities, helping families access nutritious food, protect their health, and meet their most urgent needs.

Hunger and malnutrition can have devastating consequences, particularly for children and older people. Without adequate nutrition, immune systems weaken, increasing the risk of illness and disease. By providing food assistance, you are helping to save lives, improve health outcomes, and restore hope to those facing hardship.

Our food parcels include essentials such as oil, rice, flour, and grains. Our Ramadan food packs contain similar items but also include dates and other Ramadan-specific foods.

We also provide cooked meals to families in crisis. For instance, we are working through our partner, the World Food Programme, to provide hot-cooked meals to the people of Gaza.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), hunger is an “uncomfortable or painful physical sensation caused by insufficient consumption of dietary energy.”

Despite producing enough food to feed the world’s population, an estimated 673 million people experienced hunger in 2024. Conflict, climate shocks, economic instability, and displacement continue to drive food insecurity, leaving millions in need of urgent assistance.

Some of the world's most severe hunger crises are found in Sudan, Gaza, Yemen, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Afghanistan, and the Sahel.

Our food packs are designed to provide a family of five to seven people with essential food supplies for approximately one month.

Starting from around $190, each food pack helps vulnerable families meet their immediate nutritional needs and reduce the risk of hunger.

Our food parcels have a fixed price; however, you can donate any amount to our Food Fund, which provides food for needy families.

Yes, the hunger appeal is Zakat-eligible. Ensure that you select the Zakat option from the drop-down menu.

Muslim Hands Canada provides bread parcels, hot cooked meals and food parcels to the people of Gaza through our partners at the World Food Programme (WFP).

Additionally, we distribute sewing machines and farm animals, enabling families to generate sustainable livelihoods.

These programs provide long-term solutions for self-sufficiency.

Through livelihood support programs like Hope Shops, we provide families the tools to earn an income and become self-sufficient, ultimately reducing dependence on food aid. By providing sewing machines and farming animals, we enable families to generate an income, grow their food, and support their communities.

With access to education, healthcare, and livelihood programs, communities can break the cycle of poverty.
