Qurbani: Worship Through Sacrifice and Du’a

Qurbani is an act of devotion that reflects obedience, gratitude, and trust in Allah (swt). It commemorates the sincerity and submission of Prophet Ibrahim (as) and his family, reminding us to place Allah (swt) above all else and to give generously for His sake. Alongside the sacrifice itself, du’a allows us to seek forgiveness, acceptance, and closeness to Allah (swt).

Making Intention for Qurbani

Before offering or donating Qurbani, renew your intention sincerely for Allah (swt) alone. There is no fixed du’a required before the sacrifice, but sincerity and mindfulness are essential. Those performing the sacrifice should mention the name of Allah (swt) at the time of slaughter as part of the act of worship.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ Transliteration: Bismillahi wallahu akbar Translation: In the name of Allah (swt), and Allah is the Greatest

Du’a for Forgiveness When Giving Qurbani

The days of Dhul Hijjah are a time of immense mercy. While offering Qurbani, it is recommended to turn to Allah (swt) and seek forgiveness.

رَبَّنَا إِنَّنَا آمَنَّا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ Transliteration: Rabbana innana amanna faghfir lana dhunoobana wa qina ‘adhaban-nar Translation: Our Lord, we believe, so forgive us our sins and protect us from the punishment of the Fire

Du’a for Acceptance of the Sacrifice

This du’a was made by Prophet Ibrahim (as) and his son Prophet Ismail (as) when carrying out an act of obedience to Allah (swt).

رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا إِنَّكَ أَنتَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ Transliteration: Rabbana taqabbal minna innaka antas-samee‘ul-‘aleem Translation: Our Lord, accept this from us. You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing

Du’a on the Day of Arafah

The Day of Arafah is one of the most powerful days for du’a and forgiveness, especially during the days of Qurbani.

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ Transliteration: La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah Translation: There is no god worthy of worship except Allah (swt) alone, with no partner

Takbeer During Eid al-Adha

From the 9th to the 13th of Dhul Hijjah, Muslims are encouraged to recite the takbeer after prayers.

اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ وَلِلَّهِ الْحَمْدُ Transliteration: Allahu akbar Allahu akbar la ilaha illallahu wallahu akbar wa lillahil hamd Translation: Allah (swt) is the Greatest, Allah (swt) is the Greatest. There is no god but Allah (swt), and Allah (swt) is the Greatest. All praise belongs to Allah (swt)

Qurbani is more than a sacrifice. It is an opportunity to renew faith, seek forgiveness, and share blessings with those in need.
