Introduction to Pakistan

Pakistan is located in South Asia and is home to over 255 million people. It stretches from the foothills of the Himalayas in the north and expands south to the capital city of Karachi.

It’s the fifth most populous country in the world and the second largest Muslim country. Bordering Iran, Afghanistan, China and India, Pakistan is home to a multiethnic population. The country’s official language is Urdu, but many languages are spoken across Pakistan, including Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashto, Balochi, and Saraiki.

IOver the years, numerous natural disasters, including earthquakes, droughts and floods, have struck Pakistan, impacting lives, infrastructure and the agriculture sector. The loss of crops and livestock has left many rural communities vulnerable to poverty.

Additionally, the repercussions of COVID-19, decades of political conflicts, and inflation have affected the economy.

Currently, 25 per cent of Pakistan's population lives in poverty, over 60 million people (World Bank, 2025).

Our Work in Pakistan

Muslim Hands Canada began working in Pakistan in 2018. Our main office is based in Islamabad. We operate across all provinces, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sindh, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Balochistan, providing emergency relief, winter assistance, education, clean water programs, and other developmental support.

Our mission is to safeguard the interests of vulnerable communities by providing socio-economic development, child protection, and other essential services that promote the well-being, safety, and dignity of those in need.

In 2025, we reached 197,904 beneficiaries through emergency response, health, food security, livelihoods, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and orphan programs.

We deliver shelter, food, medicines, and winter aid to families affected by floods and earthquakes, and restore livelihoods through cash grants, vocational training, and small business support.

Health interventions include eye surgeries, and disability support, while WASH projects ensure safe water access and hygiene services. We provide orphaned children with education, protection, and school sponsorships, while environmental initiatives promote climate resilience through tree planting and community projects.

Education in Pakistan

· Constructing and upgrading education facilities, benefiting 1,100 students at Al-Karam International Institute.

· Strengthened institutional and staff capacity at education centres through targeted capacity-building initiatives improving education delivery for 1,805 students at MH Wazirabad.

· Supported children with disabilities, ensuring access to specialized education services for seven vulnerable children at Al-Mudassar Special Education Complex.

· Created safer, better-equipped educational environments across supported institutions to enhance learning

Emergencies in Pakistan

·       Delivered life-saving emergency assistance in response to floods, earthquakes, winter emergencies, and disease outbreaks across Pakistan, reaching over 800,000 people in disaster-affected communities.

·       Implemented flood emergency response operations in Balochistan,  Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Sindh, providing shelter support, reconstruction, medicines, and relief items to more than 45,000 flood-affected individuals and households.

·       Supported  families affected by floods and earthquakes through constructing housing and offering shelter,  benefiting 35 households in Jaffarabad, Balochistan.

·       Delivered winter emergency assistance (2020–2023) including cash, food, and non-food items to over 5,100 vulnerable individuals in cold-affected regions such as Ziarat (Balochistan) and Swat (KP).

·       Distributed family emergency kits during crisis response efforts, reaching 747,480 beneficiaries. Provided emergency medical and health support, including medicines and COVID-19 response activities, benefiting over 5,300 people in underserved districts.

·       Ensured timely assistance to communities affected by floods and seasonal shocks.

Food Security in Pakistan

·       Delivered life-saving food assistance through Ramadan food packs, Qurbani/Udhiyah meat distribution, flour bags, and emergency food parcels, reaching over 80,000 vulnerable people across Pakistan.

·       Supported seasonal food security during Ramadan by distributing food packs and iftar meals to more than 19,000 beneficiaries, ensuring dignified access to nutritious food during the holy month.

·       Implemented Qurbani/Udhiyah programs across multiple years and districts, providing fresh meat to over 30,000 individuals, including flood-affected and low-income households.

·       Responded to crisis-driven food insecurity by distributing large-scale flour and food parcels to over 32,000 people, particularly in flood- and disaster-affected areas of Punjab, Sindh, KP, and Balochistan.

·       Prioritized flood-affected and climate-vulnerable communities by integrating food assistance into emergency and early recovery responses.

·       Ensured equitable access to food by targeting marginalized families, including those affected by poverty, displacement, and seasonal shocks.

·       Improved access to essential healthcare services through targeted medical interventions, benefiting over 6,500 individuals across underserved communities in Pakistan.

·       Provided life-changing eye care services, including cataract removal surgeries, restoring vision for 400 patients through dedicated eye camps and specialized interventions.

·       Responded to public health emergencies, including COVID-19, by delivering critical health support and supplies to 1,050 beneficiaries, strengthening community-level health resilience.

·       Enhanced healthcare access and dignity by providing accessibility goods and medical equipment, supporting 200 people with disabilities in South Punjab.

·       Strengthened health facility capacity by supplying 20 hospital beds, improving care availability for 4,800 patients at Pannah Gah / THQ Hospital Wazirabad.

·       Promoted inclusive and sustainable health-linked livelihoods by supporting special students through employment-focused initiatives, directly benefiting 92 vulnerable individuals.

Livelihoods in Pakistan

·       Strengthened economic self-reliance and income generation for vulnerable populations through cash grants, vocational training, and asset-based livelihood support, reaching over 8,700 beneficiaries across Pakistan.

·       Supported small business recovery and entrepreneurship by providing micro cash grants, grocery shop support, loader rickshaws, computers, and hope shops, benefiting over 5,100 individuals, including flood-affected households and low-income families.

·       Enhanced skills development and employability through vocational training centers and capacity-building programs, enabling approximately 1,100 trainees to access improved employment and income opportunities.

·       Promoted sustainable livelihoods for refugees by supporting Afghan refugee households through Hope Shops and livestock (cows), benefiting 224 refugees and their families.

·       Provide livelihood support in flood-affected areas to help families restore income and reduce dependency on aid.

·       Prioritized women and vulnerable groups within livelihood programming by supporting inclusive, community-based income-generating activities.

Orphans in Pakistan

·       Supported access to education and child protection for orphaned children through long-term school-based sponsorship programs across Pakistan.

·       Provided education sponsorship and welfare support to orphaned students enrolled in Muslim Hands Schools of Excellence and Model Schools in Punjab, KP, Sindh, Balochistan, and Islamabad.

·       Provided education support to orphaned children to keep them enrolled in schools.

·       Prioritized highly vulnerable children living without parental support, focusing on stability, dignity, and long-term development.

·       Strengthened institutional education partnerships to deliver consistent, accountable orphan care through established school networks.

Water in Pakistan

·       Improved access to safe and reliable drinking water through constructing and installing tube wells, dig-a-wells, community wells, and solarized water systems, reaching over 170,000 direct beneficiaries across Pakistan.

·       Established domestic and community-level water sources in water-scarce and marginalized districts of Punjab, Sindh, and KP, benefiting more than 120,000 people with sustainable access to clean water.

·       Installed large-scale WASH infrastructure, including water filtration plants and solarized reverse osmosis systems, serving over 6,000 community members in high-need rural and peri-urban areas.

·       Expanded water access in Bhakkar, Rajanpur, Muzaffargarh, Kasur, Badin, and Rahim Yar Khan to help communities cope with floods, droughts, and climate challenges.

·        Promoted safe hygiene to women and girls through school and community WASH programs, reaching at least 600 schoolgirls in Lahore.

·        Provide closer and more reliable water points to make water collection safer and quicker for women and children.
