Jumada al-Thani:

Reflecting on Love, Legacy, and Purpose

Jumada al-Thani, also known as Jumada al-Akhirah or Jamadul Ukhra, is the sixth month of the Islamic (Hijri) calendar. While it is not designated as a special month of worship, it carries deep emotional and spiritual significance for Muslims due to its close connection to the family of the Prophet Muhammad (saw).

This month invites believers to pause, reflect, and strengthen their relationship with Allah (swt) through remembrance, gratitude, and consistent good deeds.

When Is Jumada al-Thani 2026?

In 2026, Jumada al-Thani (Jumada al-Akhirah) is expected to begin on Wednesday November 11, subject to the sighting of the moon.

The Birth of Sayyida Fatima Zahra (as)

Jumada al-Thani holds special significance as it is the month in which Sayyida Fatima Zahra (AS) – the daughter of Prophet Muhammad (saw) – was born. Her birth is traditionally commemorated on the 20th of Jumada al-Thani.

Sayyida Fatima Zahra (as) holds an unparalleled status in Islam. Known for her piety, humility, strength, and unwavering devotion to Allah (swt), she remains a timeless role model for both men and women. Her closeness to her father, the Prophet Muhammad (saw), and her noble character offer profound lessons in patience, dignity, and faith.

For Muslims, Jumada al-Thani is a meaningful time to send salutations upon her and reflect on her remarkable life, drawing inspiration from her conduct and spiritual excellence.

The Prophet Muhammad (saw) said:

“Fatima is part of me; she is my heart and my soul that is within my chest. Whoever hurts her has actually hurt me, and whoever hurts me has angered Allah.” (Hadith | Bukhari)

This powerful statement reflects her immense nearness to the Prophet (saw) and her elevated status in the sight of Allah (swt).

What Is the Importance of Jumada al-Thani?

Jumada al-Thani is not a month associated with specific obligatory acts of worship. However, Islam encourages believers to engage in voluntary acts of worship throughout the year, regardless of the month.

These include:

  • Sadaqah Jaariyah (ongoing charity)
  • Recitation and reflection upon the Qur’an
  • Istighfar (seeking forgiveness)
  • Voluntary prayers (nafl salah)

This month serves as a reminder that spiritual growth is not limited to certain times of the year. Every day is an opportunity to draw closer to Allah (swt) and to purify the soul through sincere actions.

Using Time Wisely

Islam places great emphasis on valuing time. For the believer, each moment is precious –filled with the potential for reward and the forgiveness of sins through good deeds.

The Prophet Muhammad (saw) said:

“Take benefit of five before five: your youth before your old age, your health before your sickness, your wealth before your poverty, your free time before you are preoccupied, and your life before your death.” (Reported by Ibn Abbas and Al-Hakim)

Jumada al-Thani encourages us to reflect on how we use our time and how we can make better use of the blessings Allah (swt) has bestowed upon us.

A Month of Reflection and Renewal

Jumada al-Thani may pass quietly, but its lessons are profound. Through remembering the birth and legacy of Sayyida Fatima Zahra (as), believers are reminded of the beauty of sincerity, humility, and steadfast faith.

As Jumada al-Thani arrives in 2026, may we honour its significance by increasing our remembrance of Allah, reflecting on the lives of the righteous, and committing ourselves to consistent worship and compassionate action – making every moment count for our dunya and our akhirah.
