How much is Fidyah 2026?

The Fidyah payment for each missed fast that cannot be made up later is $10. To determine your total Fidyah, simply multiply $10 by the number of fasts you were unable to complete for valid reasons.

What is Fidya (Fidyah)?

Fidya is a donation that is paid when someone cannot fast during Ramadan nor can they make up missed days due to a valid reason (i.e. chronic illness, old age, ill health etc.).

In the case that someone cannot fast they should pay (Fidyah) to pay for someone in need to be fed.

Why is Fidyah Important in Islam?

Making up missed fasts during Ramadan is a commandment from Allah (swt) in his Quran, meaning that it is an obligation (Fardh).

"Fast a prescribed number of days. But whoever of you is ill or on a journey, then ˹let them fast˺ an equal number of days ˹after Ramadan˺. For those who can only fast with extreme difficulty, compensation can be made by feeding a needy person ˹for every day not fasted˺. But whoever volunteers to give more, it is better for them. And to fast is better for you, if only you knew."

Who is required to pay Fidyah?

If you don’t fast for any of the days of Ramadan, in Islam you are required to pay a charitable donation to feed someone else.

Fidyah is intended for those who suffer from an illness, or who cannot fast for a valid reason. In this case they are obligated to give a charitable donation to feed someone in need.

For those who missed days of fasting but are able to makeup fast, they should either make up the fast or pay Kaffarah.

Can I pay Fidyah for the fasts I missed due to my period or pregnancy?

Yes, according to most scholars, women who miss fasts due to menstruation or pregnancy must make them up (qada) later if they are able. However, if they are permanently unable to fast (for example, due to ongoing health conditions), they may pay Fidyah instead.

What is the difference between Fidyah and Kaffarah?

Fidyah is given when a fast is missed intentionally but for a valid reason, whereas Kaffarah applies when a fast is missed or broken without a valid excuse. The Fidyah for each missed fast equals the cost of feeding one person, while Kaffarah requires an amount equal to feeding sixty people for each fast missed.

Who is eligible to pay Fidyah?

Those who have missed fasting due to a valid reason, including illness, pregnancy, the elderly or any other reason that prevents you from being able to make up fasts later.

Who is eligible to receive your Fidyah donations?

Fidyah is to be given only to the poor and needy, not to everyone. Scholars consider Fidyah to be like Zakat, therefore those entitled to receive Fidyah are regarded as being among those who are entitled to Zakat.
