Each well donated includes a personalized plaque and a feedback report which includes details about where your well has been built and images of the communities who benefit from your donation.

What Types of Water Wells can be Constructed?
The difference in our wells is determined by the volume of water they can produce, the number of people they can benefit, and their depth.
Tube Well
A Tube Well provides clean drinking water for up to 30 people in rural villages. Tube Wells are manually operated and can lift water from about 30 metres beneath the ground. They are user-friendly and can be easily maintained by beneficiaries. These wells are built between 3–6 months, as construction depends on seasonal and regional factors.

Dig-a-Well
A Dig-a-Well provides safe water for up to 200 people and is built in communal locations such as village centres, schools, or mosques. Dig-a-Wells draw water from up to 40 metres beneath the ground, making them dependable during all seasons. They are ideal for families who rely on agriculture. These wells are built between 3–6 months, as construction depends on seasonal and regional factors.

Community Well
A Community Well serves over 1,000 people and is built in arid areas where water is particularly scarce. Community Wells are 1.5 meters wide and draw water from around 10 metres or more beneath the ground, making them dependable during all seasons and for all purposes. These wells are built between 3–6 months, as construction depends on seasonal and regional factors.

Build a Well Frequently Asked Questions
Where are the wells built, and can I choose the location?
We build Tube Wells, Community Wells, and Dig-a-Wells in Mali, Niger, and Pakistan. We also rehabilitate existing water systems in Yemen. You can choose your well location. If you are unsure about where to select your well, you have the option to donate to ‘Where Most Needed’ allowing you to reach the most vulnerable families.
How does Muslim Hands Canada select the well location?
We work with experts and community leaders on the ground in each location. These partners carry out periodic assessments, analyzing the needs of each community to determine the best location for each type of well.
How long does it take for a well to be constructed?
It can take anywhere from six to eight months to build a well. This timeline is an estimate - location and weather conditions may affect timelines.
How long does a well usually last?
It depends on which well you are donating. For example, a Tube Well with proper maintenance can last up to 10 years, while a Community Well and a Borehole can last up to 15-20 years.
Who maintains the well after it has been built?
Every time we install a well, we also train, educate, and support local community members, ensuring they have the skills to maintain the well.
Can I choose what to write on my plaque?
Yes, you can personalize a well. Many donors choose to write their names or the names of their loved ones who have passed away. Donating a well on behalf of a loved one is one of the best forms of Sadaqah Jariyah.
What's included in the completion report for my well?
A completion report includes pictures of your well and the beneficiaries. It also includes detailed information about the village your well is in, as well as the impact your well is making in the lives of community members.
Does the well come with a plaque?
Yes. You can choose to add a name that you would like to appear on the plaque that is installed on the well. If you don’t want to include a name, you can leave this section blank.
Do I receive feedback, and when?
Yes. You will receive personalized ‘feedback reports’ after your well has been completed. These reports will give you more details about the project as well as pictures of the well and information about the beneficiaries.
